Name of Assignment: Ice Cream Lab
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. S
Description of Work/Assignment: My group and I followed a document with procedural instructions to make ice cream in ten minutes. We used various materials such as: rock salt, half-and-half, sugar, plastic bags, ice, towels, and more.
Further Elaboration: I’m really proud of my group’s teamwork; we encountered a number of challenges, but were able to get through them with our interpersonal skills. We coordinated who would shake the ice, who would bring what materials, and when some things ultimately went wrong (our plastic bag broke and our ice spilled), we were able to continue making the ice cream while also cleaning up the mess. It was difficult to coordinate everything, but we were able to come together and make it happen. As far as improving on this project, we could’ve brought more extract flavors or food coloring to make the ice cream more exciting. We’ve done many different chemistry experiments in the past, and this project allowed me to utilize other skills I’ve worked on to this project, and I will continue to apply them to future projects.
